Paediatric Diabetes Mobile Unit
A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on the 20th of September 2012 between H.E Shiekh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa (President of Bahrain Diabetes Society) and the University. This cemented the operation and education of the paediatric mobile unit and its regular visits to schools across Bahrain.
The aim of this collaborative project is to teach primary aged school children in Yr. 4 and above the importance of healthy lifestyles, and raise awareness of diabetes in the community, through a range of activities including the use of Lily-sponsored “Conversation Maps” and educational games developed by RCSI Bahrain.
After a successful two-year pilot, the University and BDS signed a further two-year partnership which has seen over 2222 children educated in 34 different schools across the Kingdom. Access to these schools is supported through the contacts at the Ministry of Education and monies for printing leaflets, games and giveaways are donated via the Rotary Club of Manama.
