Prof Sameer Otoom, MD, MS, PhD, CCPT, FRCPI

Prof SameerProfessor Sameer Otoom qualified in medicine from the Jordan University of Science and Technology.  He then undertook an MS and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Houston in Texas, and a Certificate in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics (CCPT) from the University of Glasgow in the UK. 

Returning to Jordan, he became an Associate Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Director of the University Medical Centre. 

He joined the Arabian Gulf University in Bahrain for a sabbatical before joining the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Bahrain as a Clinical Pharmacologist and Director of Junior Cycle in August 2005 and Director of Intermediate Cycle in 2006. 

In April 2007 he was promoted to Professor and was appointed as the Head of the School of Medicine and then became Dean of RCSI Bahrain in 2009.  He was appointed as Vice President for Academic Affairs in 2012. in April 2013 he was appointed Interim President of RCSI Bahrain.
His main research interest lies in clinical and experimental epilepsy and the rational use of drugs. He has publications in international journals and has supervised many postgraduate students.  He worked with WHO projects in Syria, Jordan, Oman, United Arab Emirates, Kenya, Sudan and Iran.  He is a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians in Ireland.
