The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and the Royal College of Surgeons Medical University of Bahrain (RCSI Bahrain) are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr. Faisal Al Mousawi as President of RCSI Bahrain. Dr. Al Mousawi, currently chairman of the RCSI Bahrain Board of Governors will take up the position on September 1st 2009 when the Foundation President, Professor Kevin O’Malley, will retire from the post.
As a surgeon and Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, Dr. Al Mousawi has played a crucial part in developing the close relationship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and RCSI for over a quarter of a century particularly in the areas of medical education and training, culminating in the establishment of the Medical University of Bahrain in 2004.
Professor Kevin O’Malley, President of RCSI Bahrain said, “I am delighted to welcome the appointment of Dr. Al Mousawi as President of RCSI Bahrain. The long-standing relationship between Dr. Al Mousawi and RCSI, combined with his former responsibilities as Minister of Health and President of the Shura Council, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience which will benefit the future development of RCSI Bahrain.”
Commenting on the appointment of Dr. Al Mousawi, the Chief Executive of RCSI Mr. Michael Horgan said, “Faisal has been a great friend to the College for over 30 years and his contribution to the involvement of RCSI in Bahrain cannot be overestimated. We are honoured that Faisal has chosen to accept this very important post and I look forward to working closely with him in delivering the full potential of RCSI Bahrain over the coming years.”
