The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland - Medical University of Bahrain (“RCSI Bahrain”) announced today the appointment of Professor Sameer Otoom as Dean of RCSI Bahrain.
Professor Otoom who has been part of the RCSI Bahrain team since 2005, was appointed Head of the School of Medicine in April 2007. He qualified in medicine from the Jordan University of Science and Technology, has an MS and a PhD in Pharmacology from the University of Houston in Texas, and a Certificate in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics from the University of Glasgow in the UK.
In his new position as Dean of RCSI Bahrain, Professor Otoom will be responsible for the development and administration of academic programmes and academic support functions, facilitating the work of colleagues in the faculty and providing leadership to both staff and students of the University.

He will provide overall academic leadership as well as continue in his current role as Head of the Medical School. Prior to joining RCSI Bahrain, Professor Otoom worked with the WHO (World Health Organisation) on projects in Syria, Jordan, Oman, Kenya, Sudan and Iran and is currently a part-time consultant in Clinical Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Bahrain Defence Force Hospital.
He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland and of the International College of Neuropsychopharmacology. He is also an Affiliate of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Medicine of the Royal College of Physicians (UK). His main research interests lie in epilepsy and the rational use of drugs.
